Dr Yiping Wang has been senior scientist in the Renal Laboratory of Westmead Hospital since 1996. In that position he has been responsible for all aspects of many research projects, including their planning, conduct and publication, and for the day-to-day supervision of research scientists and doctoral students. Most of these projects have been in the area of targeting inflammation in progressive chronic kidney disease. Specifically, his recent focus has been on the role of macrophages, regulatory T cells, dendritic cells, and DNA vaccination in tubulointerstitial injury. He is also interested in CAR T cells and DCs targeting therapies in cancer and the application of stem cells in regenerative Medicine.  

 

Prior to 1996 he was for one year Research Fellow and three years Senior Research Fellow in University of Dublin, School of Medicine at the Children’s Research Centre of Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children. Dublin, Ireland. He was a Vice-chief pediatric surgeon in Shanghai Xinhua Hospital, China. He received his PhD at Medical School, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China in 1991.

 

He has published over 100 articles or book chapters, including more than 75 since he joined the Westmead Millennium Institute. All of the publications at Westmead have dealt with aspects of the pathogenesis and treatment of tubulo-interstitial inflammation and injury in chronic renal disease.

 

He has been a Chief Investigator on 12 NHMRC-funded grants (3 as CIA, 8 as CIB) and 3 grants of Australia Kidney Foundation and 1 from Johnson & Johnson, USA in the CTRR laboratory since 2000.
